Derbyshire police helped stop a drink-driver after they were seen ‘swerving all over the road’ on the M1 yesterday (August 30).

Posting on Twitter, South Yorkshire Police’s Operational Support Unit said there had been numerous reports about the HGV as it travelled northbound on the M1 through Derbyshire.

They revealed how officers from Derbyshire's Road Policing Unit joined the team to help to stop the vehicle near Sheffield, with a subsequent roadside test finding the driver to be nearly three times over the legal limit.

The driver was then arrested and later failed to provide a specimen while in custody.

They were then charged and will appear before court this morning, August 31.

“Numerous reports of a HGV swerving all over the road as it travelled Northbound,” South Yorkshire Police’s Operational Support Unit said.

“Ourselves & @DerbyshireRPU stop it near Sheffield.

“Driver blows nearly three times the limit roadside. Arrested & fails to provide in custody.

“Charged & remanded for court in morning.”
