Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court heard on Thursday, January 29, that Daniel John Dickinson had damaged the two doors, causing more than £1,500 of damage on November 16 last year.Prosecuting, Sarah Haslam said that Dickinson had initially become reserved, before getting up and smashing the glass in the back door of the property, in Portland Avenue, Bolsover, with the kettle. He had then left the property but returned a short time later and, finding the front door locked and tried to kick it in.The complainant had had to go to the council to get the two PVC doors replaced and was having to pay for the repairs, the court heard. The court was told that Dickinson, aged 29, and now of Fairfield’s Close, Bolsover, had since moved in with his grandmother.Dickinson, who had a previous offence for domestic violence on the same woman, admitted causing criminal damage when he appeared before the court.Speaking in his own defence, he said: “I didn’t want those people in the house and I took out my anger on inanimate objects. I accept it’s over, and it’s why I kept getting into trouble. There was a lot of drink and drugs floating around the house. Being back at my nan’s is like being in rehab.”He was fined £80, ordered to pay £1,570 in compensation, along with £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
