Mitigating, Paul Green said that, after the trial, the family had been reconciled, and the mother was now acting at Flett’s carer and helping him to deal with his mental health issues.
“She’s making sure he is taking his medication, making sure he has food, going shopping with him and taking him out socially,” he said.

Magistrates gave Flett, who admitted assault, a 12-month community order to include 60 hours of unpaid work. He must also pay £415 in prosecution costs and an £85 victim surcharge.
