Derbyshire man, caught after police pursuit, jailed for various dangerous driving offences

A 37-year-old Derbyshire man has been jailed for 26 months after he was found guilty of various dangerous driving offences and criminal damage.

Richard Whitmore, of Frecheville Street, Staveley was sentenced at the Derby Crown Court on January 20, a month after he was arrested following a police pursuit on New Year's Eve.

On December 31, Whitmore was nabbed after an intense police pursuit between Bolsover and the M1 after the Astra van he was driving failed to stop during a routine check.

He was forced to a stop when he smashed into two of the Derbyshire Policing Unit's cars and one Derbyshire Armed Response Unit's car.

It is estimated that the damage he caused was worth £12,752.

In addition to the 26 months imprisonment, Whitmore has also been disqualified from driving for four years and one month and ordered to pay £6,000 compensation.
