Dales residents urged to step up security

The appeal comes after two sheds were broken into at a property on Station Road in Beeley with items including two pedal bikes, a lawnmower and a strimmer being stolen.

The incident happened sometime between 10.30pm on Monday, July 6 and 8.40am on Tuesday, July 7.

PCSO Hayley Grundy from the Bakewell Safer Neighbourhood Team said: “We want local people to have an enjoyable summer and not to have it ruined by becoming a victim of crime.

“Residents can ensure they deter the possibility by taking precautions and following simple but effective safety advice.”

“I would urge people to be vigilant and to report suspicious activity to police. If anyone would like to speak to a member of their local Safer Neighbourhood team about any concerns they may have or to discuss picking up items offered as part of the Operation Illuminate initiative, they can contact us by calling 101.”

Police said that simple things like fitting good-quality locks to outbuildings, installing a property alarm system, motion-sensitive lighting, using gravel or stones on driveways and keeping an eye on other properties in the area and asking neighbours were all good ways preventing crime.

Residents can also pick up cut-price home security items including door chimes, alarms and lights as part of the Operation Illuminate campaign, with prices starting at just £1.
