A couple facing modern-day slavery charges for supplying workers for the Sports Direct headquarters in Shirebrook have appeared in court.

Dariusz Parczewski, 46, and his wife Bozena Parczewska, 45, of Tiverton Close, Aspley, have been charged with knowingly requiring another person to perform forced or compulsory labour.

The pair appeared alongside Krystian Parczewski, 27, of Harwill Crescent, Aspley, at Nottingham Crown Court this morning, Thursday, October 8.

As well as the slavery charge, Bozena faces 11 counts of fraud by false representation.

Krystian is also facing two charges of conspiracy to commit fraud by false representation.

The court was told that an investigation has been ongoing for more than two years.

Appearing side-by-side in the dock, a trial date was fixed with proceedings set to begin next year.

It was agreed that a Polish interpreter would be needed for the next hearing.

All three were bailed and are due to re-appear on January 8.

It should be pointed out that Sports Direct are not accused of any wrongdoing with its links to this case.
