Police have today, Sunday, August 18, named the two people who were discovered dead at a house in Chesterfield on Friday.

Officers had been called to a semi-detached property on a bottom corner of Walton Drive, Boythorpe, about 2.15pm, on Friday, August 16, where officers discovered the dead bodies.

Derbyshire Constabulary has now named the deceased as 60 year-old David Connaughton and 57 year-old Julie Connaughton.

Police were called to the address after concerns were raised for one of the occupants and officers found two people dead inside the property.

Derbyshire Constabulary launched an investigation but stated police are not looking for anyone else in connection with the deaths and are preparing a file for the coroner.

Shocked residents told how police vehicles and officers descended on the neighbourhood during Friday afternoon and carried out door-to-door enquiries in the area as part of their investigation.

Peter Revill, of Walton Drive, said: “We can’t believe it. It’s like something out of Coronation Street or Eastenders.”

One resident said: “My sister-in-law had been for a cup of tea and after she left she called me to ask what was happening because there were police everywhere and they were knocking on doors. One neighbour told me there had been a double death.”

Another resident who had just returned from a holiday with his family said: “It’s very sad. It’s the sort of thing you read about happening elsewhere but not on your own doorstep.”

Those with information which may help police with their on-going investigation should call Derbyshire Constabulary on 101.
