Chesterfield Magistrates’ Court heard on Wednesday, January 22 that Daniel Lee Hancock had arrived at the address he had been sharing with his ex in Edale Road, Mastin Moor, on October 17.

When police arrived he had refused to let them in and said he was going to cut his own throat if they tried, but shortly afterwards he surrendered the knife, the court was told.

Prosecuting, Becky Allsop said: “Mr Hancock’e ex-partner contacted the police by the emergency 999 number. He was distressed following the break-up of their relationship and he was making threats that he was going to kill himself. He was threatening to cut his own throat with a knife, and he was also out in the street only wearing a dressing gown and he was shouting and swearing.

“When police arrived, he was seen at an upstairs window and he made threats to cut his own throat again if they entered the property, but shortly afterwards he put down the knife. He had been drinking and taking cocaine.”

Hancock, 31, and currently of no fixed address, was unrepresented in court and offered no mitigation in his own defence.

He was fined £120 and ordered to pay £85 costs and a £32 victim surcharge.
