Chesterfield arsonist jailed

A MAN has been jailed after putting burning items through a letter box knowing a woman was inside.

Gareth Simpson, 24, had been drinking heavily when set fire to clothing and packaging, and pushed it through the letterbox of a house on Milton Crescent, Chesterfield on March 20, 2011.

Simpson, of Trinity Close, Chesterfield was arrested later that night and admitted the offence.

He pleaded guilty to committing arson recklessly and was jailed for 33 months at a hearing at Derby Crown Court on Friday, September 16.
