Cars in Chesterfield caught with dangerous spiked wheels

Officers from the Derbyshire Roads Policing Unit handed out penalties to two motorists who had spikes sticking out of their hubcabs on Saturday night.

The driver of a VW Polo simply abandoned their vehicle on a double white lines after a wheel came off.

A DRPU officer said: “They simply locked it up and left it. No call to us, no note just left in a dangerous position. Leaving/parking a vehicle against a double white line system is an endorsable offence - 3 points, £100 fine.

“He was supposed to call the police and a breakdown company as it was in a dangerous position. Not lock it up, leave it and go home to Rotherham.”

On social media the officer joked “getting tyred of this behaviour” but dubbed the wheels “likely to cause a danger to pedestrians.”

The owners received PG9 prohibitions, which are given for mechanical problems or for the condition of a vehicle’s bodywork and equipment.
