A THUG attacked a fish and chip shop worker and smashed a window after he had an argument with his girlfriend.

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard how William Richards, 22, of Rutland Road, Chesterfield, entered West Bars Fish and Chip shop in the town with his girlfriend who went behind the counter to get away from him.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Mahon said chip shop worker Nicolas Munro tried to get them to leave because he was closing and Richards struck him in the back of his head and as he was leaving he smashed a window at nearby Cavendish dental surgery.

Richards, who pleaded guilty to assault and causing damage, told police he had been drinking and he was being pushed out of the shop and claimed he fell into the window during the incident in April. Magistrates adjourned the case until June 13 to consider reports before sentencing. Richards was granted unconditional bail.
