Officers have also been searching for a silver 09 plate Astra, which was captured on CCTV in Westthorpe Road area around the time of the alleged assault.

Although there is nothing distinctive about the five-door car, detectives hope someone may have seen a similar vehicle parked up in an unusual spot in the last few days, or seen a car like it dumped somewhere.

They also want to hear from anyone who may have been offered a silver Astra for sale since March 29.

Detective Inspector Chris Marriott of Derbyshire Constabulary, who is leading the investigation, said: “As part of our investigation, we need to find the Astra and I am urging anyone who might be able to help us, to get in touch now.

“I appreciate that silver Astras are very common. However, it may be that you’ve seen a car like it parked up near where you live or work – or perhaps you’ve seen one left in an unusual place, such as a country lane.

“This particular vehicle is linked to addresses in South Yorkshire.

“If that jogs your memory, and it doesn’t quite sit right, please call us. Your information could be of great assistance to our investigation.”

Anyone with information should contact the force on 101 quoting reference 21*174876 in any correspondence.
