APPEAL: Robber punched pensioner in the head before stealing handbag

Detectives have launched a manhunt after a pensioner was punched in the head several times during a robbery in Alfreton.

The 68-year-old woman was attacked as she walked home from Tesco in Alfreton yesterday (Friday), at around 6pm.

Police say she was approached by a man on Grange Street who demanded she hand over her handbag.

“When she refused, the attacker punched her to the head several times before stealing the bag,” a spokesperson added.

The victim is currently receiving treatment at Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham.

The offender was white, medium to stocky build, with short dark hair. He was wearing dark trousers or jeans, and a dark jacket. He ran off with the handbag, which is patent black leather.

Detectives investigating the offence are appealing for witnesses to get in touch on 101, quoting incident 538 of February 5.
