Crich Tramway Village hosted a programme of events from August 3 to August 10, expanding on its traditional 1940s weekend, and visitors got into the swing of things from day one.

Museum volunteer Gordon Burch said: “This weekend is always a highlight of the year but we wanted to give more people a flavour of it in 2015.

“It was a busy week, and visitor numbers were up significantly on previous years.

“It’s usually popular with re-enactment groups, but we had many more members of the public, and lots of children who really seemed to enjoy it.”

The historic trams trundled through the village surrounded by vintage enthusiasts, period music acts and wartime displays.

Gordon added: “The Spitfire was a big draw, people loved sitting in the cockpit, and the new RAF operations room was a hit too.”
