Crews rescue Via Gellia crash victims

A motorcyclist is in hospital with serious injuries after a crash on the Via Gellia road.

The incident, which happened at about 4pm on Tuesday, involved a motorbike, a car and a lorry.

Fire crews from Matlock, Wirksworth and Staveley rescued the motorcyclist, who ended up underneath the lorry, and the driver of the car who was trapped in his vehicle.

The motorcyclist, 50, of Belper, was taken to Queen’s Medical Centre in Nottingham with serious injuries. The driver was also admitted to hospital with minor injuries.

A spokesman for Derbyshire police this morning said the casualties remain in hospital.

Police and the air ambulance also attended the incident on the notorious road, which was closed until about 10pm.
