Countdown to festival

With just weeks to go, organisers of one of Matlock’s biggest events are getting in the party spirit.

The second Matlock Festival will offer live music, comedy, cabaret, food, drinks and arts.

Taking place between Saturday, July 12, and Sunday, July 20, the festival is organised by Steven Murphy and Lisa McTige, of Dales Link, and sponsored by Maazi.

The party atmosphere culminates in the weekend, July 19 to 20, which will involve children’s activities, fair ground rides, live music, performances, archery, climbing and a tug ‘o’ war on Hall Leys Park.

Steven commented: “What we’ve tried to do is aim this festival at the people who live in the area, a chance for them to celebrate their own town and create a sense of community which can grow and grow.”

The festival will be opened on July 12 by Music on the Meadows, organised by Matlock Rugby Club at Cromford Meadows. Tickets will cost £10 and are available David Bray Opticians, in Matlock, The White Lion, in Starkholmes and Traidlinks, in Wirksworth.
