COUNCIL chiefs are rolling out a security marking and forensic coding system for homes across a village to protect possessions, deter burglars and bring criminals to justice.

Clowne Parish Council announced at its public meeting on Monday, July 11, how it has started giving away SmartWater Ltd kits right across Clowne.

The free kits involve invisible markers and sprays to mark goods with unique codes which can only be revealed by ultra violet light and help link stolen goods back to owners and offenders to crime scenes.

Parish council chairman Karl Reid said: “We’re delivering warning cards and our callers will then visit with ID and kits to show people how to use them.”

The £9,000 scheme has been funded by the parish council and partners including Derbyshire County Council, Derbyshire Constabulary and the Bolsover Local strategic Partnership.
