SEVENTEEN Derbyshire council chiefs pocketed six-figure pay packets last year, according to new data.

The senior executives took home pay and perks packages of more than £100,000 from 2010 to 2011 – at a time when other workers suffered wage cuts or freezes and the threat of unemployment.

The sums emerged in this year’s Town Hall Rich List, compiled by right-wing national pressure group the Taxpayers’ Alliance.

However, council bosses have defended the pay packets.
