Police have knocked on the doors of parents whose children have been playing truant from school.

PC Simon Duddles and PCSO Janis Naylor, of Derbyshire police, conducted a truancy patrol last Monday after liaising with staff at Outwood Academy Newbold on Highfield Lane in Chesterfield.

The patrol took place between 10.30am and 1pm and saw officers visiting the homes of students who did not have a register mark from school for their morning lessons.

PCSO Naylor said: “PC Duddles and I spent time visiting students who had not turned up to school that morning and speaking to young people, their parents and carers.

“We offered advice around truancy.

“The school is always grateful for this input and the message resonates around the school when this takes place.”
