Police in Chesterfield are appealing for witnesses after missiles were thrown at cars from a footbridge over a busy Chesterfield road.

At 2.15pm, on Wednesday, November 30, police were called by a motorist who had items thrown at his car as he travelled under a bridge on the A617 Hasland bypass.

The man said the items were either stones or ball bearings and described the culprits as three boys all wearing dark clothing.

A similar incident occurred on the same bridge at around 4pm, on Monday, November 28.

Officers have visited local schools to speak to pupils about the dangers of this type of behaviour.

PCSO Alan Nield, of the Hasland and St Leonard’s Safer Neighbourhood Team, said: “This type of behaviour is extremely dangerous and while it may seem like fun to those involved it could lead to a serious accident.

“If you have information about anyone taking part in this reckless behaviour please contact police.”

Those with information about the incidents should call Derbyshire police on 101.
