He said: “This is a major step in the development programme and it is fitting that a Derbyshire company has been awarded the contract thereby helping the local economy.

“The joint programme illustrates our commitment to working with the fire and rescue service to deliver the best and most efficient possible service to those who live and visit the county.”

Chairman of Bowmer and Kirkland, John Kirkland, said: “To have won this contract against some strong competition is an indication of how hard we have worked.

“We have worked to ensure best value and high standards for the joint police and fire service HQ.

“We are absolutely delighted to be working with the joint venture team and it is fitting that this new Derbyshire facility should be built by a Derbyshire-based company.”

Mr Charles, Councillor Roland Hosker signed the contract at Butterley Hall on Friday, May 15.

The contract was signed on behalf of the Limited Liability Partnership (LLP) that has been set up by the police and fire service in order to manage the project.

The LLP is responsible for awarding all contracts associated with the new police and fire headquarters.
