Concerns have been raised at plans to build 80 new homes in Wingerworth.

Planning and development consultants, Johnson Mowat, is set to submit plans to North East Derbyshire District Council on behalf of Anwyl Land for the homes off New Road and Hill Houses Lane.

MP for North East Derbyshire, Lee Rowley, said he will support residents in their opposition to the proposals.

“This is another example of a housing development which is totally inappropriate for our district,” Mr Rowley said.

“We do need more houses in our area but they need to be built in the right places and in consultation with local residents.

“The local council’s failure over many years to put in place up-to-date development policies is resulting in the likely loss of these green fields forever. “Local residents are rightly outraged about this latest proposal.”

According to the plans, existing boundary trees will be retained, the footpath which crosses the site will be retained and new ‘high quality public open space’ will be created to benefit both existing and future residents of Wingerworth.

Two vehicle access points will also be created.

A spokesman for North East Derbyshire District Council said: “We do not comment upon individual applications until they have been considered by the planning committee. However, what we can say is that each application is judged on its own merits and this one will be no different.”

He added: “We have consulted on our draft Local Plan with our local communities and stakeholders and are currently collating all the responses in preparation for the next version of the plan which will published this autumn.

“A lot of hard work has gone into producing this document which must be in line with government requirements and at the same time meet the needs of local people and we are on course to achieve that.

“The council also has an approved neighbourhood planning protocol, which sets out how the council can support communities in delivering neighbourhood plans and how it will work with parish and town councils.”
