College boss swaps desk for train depot

A college principal exchanged pupils for pendolinos when he went to manufacturer Bombardier on Friday as part of National Apprenticeship week.

Chesterfield College’s Trevor Clay was at the Derby firm experiencing a range a roles on the train production line, from the installation of wiring right through to the finished product.

He said: “National Apprenticeship Week is an important opportunity to showcase the benefits of work placed learning in equipping young people with the necessary skills and experience to make their way in the world today. I’ve found it fascinating at Bombardier, I never realised just how many parts and processes go into making the trains on London’s underground. It’s a great company and I’m really grateful that they gave me this opportunity.”
