Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Wednesday, May 17, how Reece Ward, 18, of Carrwood Road, Renishaw, damaged a living room door, a staircase wall and a letter box.

Prosecuting solicitor Sarah Haslam said: “Reece was in bed and got up about 11.30am after being out all weekend and his father felt he had been taking cocaine and the defendant became aggressive.”

Ms Haslam added that Ward told his father he owed someone money for cocaine and after his father told him he only had himself to blame the defendant grabbed tablets from a cupboard and swallowed them with milk.

The court heard how the police were called and, according to Ms Haslam, Ward punched a staircase wall leaving two holes, ripped wallpaper and punched a hole in a door. Ms Haslam added that as Ward left he also damaged a letter box.

Ward pleaded guilty to causing damage after the incident on May 2.

Denny Lau, defending, said Ward suffers with depression and is seeking counselling for his drug problems. Magistrates sentenced Ward to a 12 month community order with drug rehabilitation and a further rehabilitation requirement.

Ward was fined £40 and must pay an £85 victim surcharge.
