Climbing mountains for Thomas

KIND-HEARTED policemen have given young Thomas Fletcher a real taste of independence after they raised enough money for a motorised sport wheelchair for the youngster.

The officers completed the Three Peaks Challenge in less than 12 hours to raise more than £6,000 for the seven-year-old who suffers from a rare lung condition called Bronchiolitis Obliterans.

The condition, diagnosed after Thomas had a virus aged three, means that he finds it difficult to have as active a life as he would like. The specialised wheelchair will mean that he can join in outdoor activities and family days out.

Det Sgt Steve Osbaldeston, who presented Thomas with the wheelchair, said: “I would like to thank everyone for all their support and help in raising this sum of money which has enabled us to buy this fantastic piece of equipment for Thomas.”
