Climber falls 50ft at Froggatt Edge

Edale Mountain Rescue Team was called out to Froggatt Edge, in the Peak District, after receiving reports that a climber had fallen.

A young man had been leading a route and was just about to top out when he fell 50ft height from the crag about 4.15pm, on Saturday, May 14.

An Edale Mountain Rescue Team spokesman said the climber had placed gear below him which took some of the momentum out of the fall before he hit the ground.

A team paramedic was quickly on the scene along with the Air Ambulance to assess and treat injuries.

The climber only suffered mild leg and back injuries and was driven back to the road head in one of the mountain rescue team vehicles.

He was transferred to a waiting land ambulance, according to the team, and was taken to Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital.
