Clergy and parishoners turned out in force to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Roman Catholic Church in Clay Cross.

Clergy and parishoners turned out in force to celebrate the 150th anniversary of the Roman Catholic Church in Clay Cross.

A special Mass was held at St Patrick and St Brigid at Thanet Street where nearly 100 parishioners attended the service and enjoyed light refreshments afterwards.

The Vicar General of the Nottingham Diocese, Rev John Guest, was the chief celebrant assisted by the Parish Priest, Father James O’Hanlon , six other local priests and two permanent deacons.

During the service, a resume of the history of the parish was presented and a special illuminated Papal Blessing was received from Pope Benedict XV1

A congratulatory letter was sent byThe Bishop of Nottingham, the Rt Rev Malcolm McMahon, who was unable to attend due to a previously booked engagement.
