Church bells and cheers for our Olympic Torchbearers

THOUSANDS of spectators have been left glowing with regional pride after our sporting and community heroes lifted our spirits as they carried the Olympic Torch with style and panache across Derbyshire.

After the ultimate sporting symbol was originally lit in Greece in May it has travelled to Land’s End and been paraded through the UK and today, Friday, June 29, the world’s eyes were on our neck of the woods in Glapwell, Bolsover, Calow, Chesterfield, and the Peak District as our Torchbearers dazzled viewers around the globe.

Cystic fibrosis sufferer Olivia Ford, of Dronfield Woodhouse, Leukaemia Research fundraiser Kaylet Smedley, 80, of Chesterfield, and Baslow’s swimming coach Frances Dalrymple-Smith have been among today’s many deserving Torchbearers.

So many more have also filled our hearts with joy and inspiration so we can also embrace the true spirit of the Olympics and face our own personal goals and troubles with the same courage and fortitude as those who carried the torch today.
