Chesterfield police are appealing for information after a man sneaked into an unlocked house.

A woman and her two-year-old child were at their home on Welfare Avenue at about 10.45am on Thursday.

She came downstairs to find a man had sneaked into the house and was in the kitchen with the youngster.

Derbyshire Constabulary said: “When she shouted at him he ran away.”

She described him as being of eastern European appearance with dark hair and wearing a green shell suit type jacket, black tracksuit bottoms and white trainers.

The man is thought to have headed off towards town on Old Hall Road and may have driven away on a moped.

Anyone who was in the area at the time or who has any information which would help trace the intruder should contact police on 101, quoting crime number 36750/15, or call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
