CHESTERFIELD: Shoppers donate over £1120 to RNLI

Members and friends of the Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire Branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution were in action last Friday and Saturday at the Sainsbury Superstore at Rother Way, Chesterfield. The two days were very successful, raising over £1120 for the work of the R.N.L.I. Thanks go to the very generous customers of the store, to branch member Ian Ashmore from the store who was instrumental in arranging the collection, along with Lee Holland, Sansbury’s Public Relations Ambassador, without whose help the two days would not have happened, and to all the collectors who gave up their time so willingly, and to events organiser, Mary Rhodes, for ensuring all the collectors turned up.

Coming up this Saturday afternoon, from 2pm to 4.30pm at 261 Chesterfield Road, Temple Normanton, the branch is holding its re-arranged ‘Scoff Our Scones’ (S.O.S) Day, when fresh cream scones, tea and coffee will be on offer, along with a raffle with some superb donated prizes. The event should have been held at the end of January, but was snowed off.

On Tuesday, April 23, the branch AGM will be held at 10am at the Bar of the Pomegranate Theatre on Corporation Street, Chesterfield. Highlight of this year’s meeting will be the attendance of Charles Hanson, famed for television appearances in ‘Antiques Road Trip’ and ‘Flog It!’, who is to be the branch’s new honorary president. Anyone interested in the work of the Lifeboats will be made very welcome.
