The oldest pub in Chesterfield, the Royal Oak in the Shambles, has been confirmed closed.
We received a report from a worried punter that the pub appeared to have shut for good.
The Royal Oak's website states: "The pub is now closed until further notice."
Locals were gutted to hear the news.
Commenting on the Derbyshire Times’ Facebook page, Donna Littlewood said: "Why on earth is it closing? Even ghost walks take you to this pub.”
Tim Dowsett said: "Maybe lower the rent on places in town until things pick up. It's got to be better than having empty buildings."
Adam Bushell said: "I had so many good times in here."
