CHESTERFIELD: Rotarians welcome Cllr John Burrows to talk about town regeneration

President Rodger Heathcote chaired his final meeting of the current Rotary year of The Rotary Club of Chesterfield Scarsdale held at Proact stadium in June with 41 members present. Rodger introduced the speaker, Cllr John Burrows, Leader of Chesterfield Borough Council.

Rtn John Day thanked club members for their support during two months of medical treatment in Sheffield.

George Ling held the monthly Foundation draw and winners were Alan Wilkinson, David Melton, Brian Harrison.

Past President Brian Ashall who organised Rotary Kids Out project along with president Rodger and Barry Thompson, took 26 children with six teacher/assistants from William Rhodes School, which on this occasion was a visit to The Magna Adventure Centre at Rotherham. The children eagerly participated and their enthusiasm and pleasure were plain to see. The club was much appreciative of the good conduct and polite behaviour of the children.

PP John Coker introduced Cllr John Burrows whose subject was the regeneration of Chesterfield. A booklet titled Invest in Chesterfield which is a partnership between Destination Chesterfield and Chesterfield Borough Council was made available. A “Modern Awakening” to the town was progressing and in recent times a superb new football stadium and Tesco Extra, the new Casa Hotel have been completed and a new Market Hall redevelopment was soon to be completed. He also introduced forthcoming projects and answered numerous questions. The vote of thanks was proposed by Past President Henry Marsh.
