CHESTERFIELD: RNLI branch boosts funds at open gardens event

Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire branch of the Royal National Lifeboat Institution is holding an Open Gardens event this Sunday at 257 and 261 Chesterfield Road, Temple Normanton, the homes of Janet, Peter and Stephen Wright.

The gardens will be open to be enjoyed from 1pm to 5pm, and throughout the afternoon light refreshments will be on sale, the R.N.L.I. souvenir sales stall will be in attendance, with Christmas cards, calendars and diaries for 2014 on offer, and there will be a raffle.

Proceeds from the event will go to the R.N.L.I. Appeal for a new tractor and launching trailer for the new All Weather Shannon Class Lifeboat to be stationed at Ilfracombe, North Devon late next year, which will replace the Mersey Class Lifeboat ‘Spirit of Derbyshire’ currently on station at Ilfracombe, a boat which was funded by the generosity of the people of Derbyshire nearly 25 years ago.

As an additional attraction, it is hoped that the children from Grassmoor Primary School will be visiting the gardens during the mid-afternoon, probably at about 3pm, to entertain visitors with the songs they have learnt about lifeboats, which they sang to great praise at a concert at Whittington Moor Methodist Church recently.
