CHESTERFIELD: Riders offered the chance to test their control skills

Motorcyclists are being encouraged to take part in Derby and Derbyshire Road Safety Partnership’s Rider Skills Challenge on Sunday, April 14.

The free event is being hosted by Triskelion Motorcycle Training in Chesterfield and the first 48 people to register on the day will get to compete.

Andy Adlington, the partnership’s motorcycle project officer, said: “The Rider Skills Challenge is all about staying in control of your bike.

“Competitors negotiate a specially designed obstacle course which has been set up to test their skills and riding ability.

“The challenge tests a rider’s ability to manoeuvre safely in real-life situations like when you’re at an awkward junction or travelling through heavy traffic.”

Andy added: The Rider Skills Challenge promises to be a great day out.

“Even if you don’t get to compete yourself, you can enjoy watching other bikers being put through their paces and learn a few new techniques that will help you to stay safe while enjoying the freedom of the road.”

On the day of the Rider Skills Challenge, Triskelion Motorcycle Training will open at 9am.

Places will be allocated on a ‘first-come, first-served’ basis so be sure to arrive early if you’re keen to compete rather than watch.

In order to take part in the challenge, you must bring along a full motorcycle licence and suitable safety gear. Triskelion is based at Clocktower Business Centre on Works Road in Hollingwood.

The Rider Skills Challenge event will run until 5pm.
