At the June committee meeting of the Chesterfield and North East Derbyshire Ramblers the recent Chesterfield Walking Festival was discussed.
Members led 16 walks attracting 321 participants on free walks from three miles upwards. The strong attendances were illustrated by the Chesterfield Round Walk where Mel Hardy led 32 on the 34-mile circuit of the town, with a record 26 walkers finishing in around 12 hours. Members also led several walks for other organisations attracting a further 155 in the process.
The committee expressed their pleasure that the festival has gone from strength to strength, becoming an established part of the walking calendar, attracting visitors from a very wide area. At the meeting the group expressed their thanks and appreciation to the farmers in the area, who have reinstated their footpaths after ploughing and cropping this year.
