Although the weather could have been better, there was a good turnout at the recent meeting of the Chesterfield Philatelic Society, which was held at the Bonsall Court common room, Newbold.
Vice-president Mike Inger was in the chair and he invited members to display material associated with the letter “G”. With this being a members’ night, there were many wide and varied themes on show which began with John Barwick and George V and George VI issues plus some Guernsey. Leon Davenport, “The Great Game” a selection of autographed covers from the stars of our 1966 World Cup team and management. Mike Moore, “German Government” issues of the stamp of occupied Poland 1939-45. Edward Dytkiewicz, “Greeting Cards from Yester Year”. Derrick Wain, “Gibraltar - Royal Occasions” Derek Oldale “Gone but not forgotten” - famous people on stamps. Don Hallet, “God’s Wonderful Railway” - postcards issued by the Great Western Railway. George Robinson, “Gibraltar” and Bert Orwin with “Galleons Plus” a set of old postcards depicting model ships.
The acting president, Mike Inger, warmly congratulated all those members who had displayed for bringing such a wide and varied selection of subjects which had culminated in a very enjoyable evening.
