Chesterfield marathon route is unveiled

The route for Chesterfield Marathon has been unveiled.

Runners taking part in the event on September 14 will go through the town centre, through Brampton, Sheepbridge, around Horns Bridge roundabout and along the bypass past Casa Hotel.

The 26-mile route begins and finishes in Queen’s Park with aims to raise funds for Chesterfield-based charity Kids ‘n’ Cancer UK as well as other local charities and causes, including Sheffield Children’s Hospital Charity.

So far more than 800 people have signed up for the marathon including Chesterfield FC chief executive Chris Turner. Chris will run the half marathon distance on behalf of the Spireites’ Football in the Community programme.

The event includes a full marathon, a relay race and a fun run which involves shorter distances up to two miles.

Chesterfield boss Paul Cook and a selection of players are set to attend the marathon to give their support to all runners, with more than 1,000 people set to take part.

Runners have until June 1 to enter at the current discount rates of £35 (full marathon) £20 (half marathon) £100 (relay) and £5 (fun run).

The deadline is also applicable to runners from the cancelled Sheffield Half Marathon, who will receive a discount to enter the race.

In addition to the running events there will be a range of fun activities Queens Park. The post-race celebration party kicks off straight after the fun run finishes with entertainment and live bands and fairground rides. The day will finish with a firework finale.
