A Chesterfield man is so confident England are going to win the World Cup that he has already got a tattoo marking the potential success.
Lewis Franks Pearson, 22, of Brampton, got ‘England 2018 World Cup Winners’ inked on his left leg on Sunday in Matlock, the day after the Three Lions’ 2-0 quarter-final win against Sweden.
England are next in action tonight against Croatia for a place in the final.
Asked why he decided to get the tattoo before England had qualified for the final, Lewis said: “It is the best I have seen them play and I think it is now or never and I think we could do it. I have got a feeling we are going to win it. It’s coming home.”
So what was the reaction from family and friends when he returned home with the £40 tattoo?
“My wife called me an idiot and my mum wasn’t too pleased,” Lewis said.
“My sisters were laughing about it.
“If we lose it will be a bit of a regret but I can’t see it happening.
“I will have to think of how to cover it up but it will not be straight away.”
Spireites fan Lewis said that he will be watching the game tonight at his workplace in Holmewood, after being given the go-ahead by his bosses.
He added: “I think we will win. You have just got to believe it.”
