The Inner Wheel Club of Chesterfield held their monthly meeting/lunch at the Olde House in May. 28 members attended along with three guests of members.
After lunch offices of the club gave their reports.
President Adrienne gave a full report of the District Conference held in Plymouth the previous week. Seven members attended the three-day onference which was a great success.
The president of Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland John Minhinick gave a short speech. The Countess of Wessex was presented with a cheque for Brainwave. Lars Thorp from Antiques Road Show related some amusing incidents of the road show.
Chris Moon, an Army officer who lost an arm and a leg in a minefield, gave an insight into his struggle to recover and now works for a charity clearing minefields.
Gail Stuart daughter of the late Eric Morcambe gave an amusing look into the “Life with dad”.
A cheque was presented to the Military Wives after they had performed.
The conference ended with the presidents evening, Flower Power Band performing and all our members dressed as sailors to the theme Hey Ho Plymouth.
To finish our meeting Mary Mohamad read out a poem she had written about the conference. After which we had a quiz “Do you know Chesterfield”. The winner was Margaret Stoppard. The Rose Bowl was taken to member Catharine Blyton who was unable to attend the meeting.
Our next meeting will be the AGM on June 21.
The Rorary Classic Car & Bike Show is on June 12 at Renishaw Hall, 3pm - 8pm.
