CHESTERFIELD FC’s old stadium at Saltergate has been sold to Barratt homes for an undisclosed sum.
The club and GB Development Solutions – which built the £13m B2net Stadium – submitted a plan to create up to 68 homes at the old Recreation Ground, on Saltergate, in March.
The bid clinched outline planning permission last year and this week GB Development Solutions announced Barratt homes will take on the masterplan and build the properties.
Martin Smout, chairman and chief executive of GB Group, said: “After working with Chesterfield FC for several years, we’re really pleased to complete this deal with Barratt Homes, one of the leading housing developers in the UK.
“We know that local people are really keen to see the site developed and the much needed provision of new homes.”
Barratt Homes intends to build 68 family homes of two, three and four bedrooms.
The old stadium opened in 1871 and was in use until the club’s relocation last July.
The sale will be completed on January 31 and demolition work could start in the spring.
