FIREFIGHTERS were called out to Boots chemist in Chesterfield town centre today, Tuesday, January 29, after someone could smell burning in the store.

Derbyshire fire and rescue service confirmed that it received an emergency call about 2.30pm, today, and the property on Low Pavements was evacuated.

A fire service spokesman said there were also reports that the Pavement shopping centre area was also evacuated as a precaution.

Chesterfield and Staveley firefighters have been searching Boots for the source of the burning smell and the fire service stated that the call-out is so far not thought to be serious and hoped the area would be shortly declared safe.
