Chesterfield drink-driving beautician's work plan is jeopardised by driving ban

Carly Louise Ryan, 25, of High Street, Brimington, Chesterfield, was stopped by police at the McDonald’s car park, at Alma Leisure Park, on Derby Road by police, according to a Chesterfield magistrates’ court hearing on Tuesday, January 19.

Prosecuting solicitor Becky Allsop said: “It was 20 minutes to 8am, on December 27, when police received a report of a suspected drink-driver.

“They saw the vehicle and as it pulled out of a parking bay police pulled alongside and told the driver to get back into the bay and she took her time reversing.

“Police could not smell alcohol on the defendant and she was not slurring her words but she said she had been out drinking the night before even though she felt fine.”

Police carried out a drink-drive test and she recorded 53microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath which exceeded the 35microgrammes limit.

Ryan pleaded guilty to exceeding the alcohol drink-drive limit.

Defence solicitor David Gittins said: “She had been out with a friend and thought she would have been fine to drive.

“She was not slurring her words and she had been reversing slowly because she was nervous and she was driving a new car.”

Mr Gittins explained that Ryan is a single mother studying at college with hopes of becoming a mobile beautician but a driving ban means these plans will have to be altered.

Magistrates fined Ryan £120 and ordered her to pay a £20 victim surcharge and £85 costs.

She was also disqualified from driving for 12 months.
