Chesterfield drink-driver jailed for being four times over the limit

Chesterfield magistrates’ court heard on Tuesday, January 26, how Paul Hadley, 40, of Camerory Way, New Whittington, Chesterfield, had been driving on High Street, New Whittington, when he was in a collision with a taxi driver.

Prosecuting solicitor Rod Chapman said: “Police received a call from a taxi driver that there had been a minor collision where no damage had occurred.

“The taxi driver spoke to the other driver, Hadley, and the defendant passed over his address but the taxi driver suspected Hadley had been drinking.

“Hadley left the scene, but the taxi driver passed the defendant’s details to police and they visited his home and carried out a drink-drive breath test.”

Hadley recorded 141microgrammes of alcohol in 100millilitres of breath, according to the court, when the legal limit is 35microgrammes.

He told police he had been driving the car that collided with the taxi driver and he had been drinking vodka and had gone to a chip shop.

Hadley pleaded guilty to exceeding the alcohol drink-drive limit after the incident on January 2.

Magistrates indicated they were very concerned about the high drink-drive reading and jailed Hadley during a further hearing on January 27 to eight weeks of custody.

He was also disqualified from driving for 30 months and must pay an £80 victim surcharge.
