President Mike Cudzich-Madry presided at the weekly meeting of the Rotary Club of Chesterfield held at the Olde House, Newbold, on Friday, August 9.
He welcomed guests Trevor Sharpe, Luke Modiri, son of Rotarian Mike Modiri, and Frank Clifford, past president of the Rotary Club of Bolsover.
On behalf of Club Council, past president Geoff Mitchell explained the club’s existing committee structure before members were given the opportunity to select the committee they would be serving on during the Rotary year 2013-14. It was noted that a speaker from District would be attending a future meeting to give an update on Foundation, which is Rotary’s own charity.
The president reported that the date of the club’s 91st charter celebration had been changed and would now be held at the Ringwood Hall Hotel on Friday, November 22, 6pm for 7pm. It was decided that there would be no lunchtime club meeting on that day as members would be attending the club’s charter anniversary celebration that evening.
Past president John Heath offered to provide storage for club equipment used to support fund-raising events during the year. Members decided that if this ever proved to be inadequate the club should consider hiring a storage container.
It was noted that official annual visits to other local Rotary Clubs had been mutually discontinued some years before and there were currently no plans by the clubs to reinstate them.
The president reminded members that the club’s annual barbecue was being held at the home of past president Bryan and Heather White on Sunday, August 18, 12.30pm for 1pm.
The meeting was brought to a close by past president David Dolman who proposed the toast.
At the next meeting tomorrow (Friday) the after-lunch speaker is Heather Fawbert, the chief executive of Fairplay, who will give an update on ‘The Chesterfield Fairplay Centre and Garden’. Speaker host is Jim Boden and duty Rotarian is Derek Botham.
