CHESTERFIELD CHAMPION: '˜The town is fantastic with a real market town feel'

I have a partner of 20 years, a brother, one niece and one great nephew – age five – who loves me to take him to Matlock.

Although my career has seen me travelling all over the country, I could never see myself living anywhere else other than Chesterfield.

I currently work at Slic Training (International) Ltd, in the role of head of quality improvements.

Slic Training was established in 2009 and delivers training nationally for small, medium and large employers. From its original base in horticulture, the company has evolved and built a reputation as a major player in the delivery of facilities management related training.

1. What do you like best about living in Chesterfield and why?

I think Chesterfield is a fantastic place to live as there is lots to see and do. The town centre has a diverse range of eating places and historic landmark buildings such as the Crooked Spire and the Pomegranate Theatre.

Chesterfield also retains the quaint market town feel, along with the wonderful Peak District that is within a 15-minute drive.

2. What are your favourite ways to spend your free time in Derbyshire?

I love to make use of the spectacular countryside we have. I also enjoy a stroll around the many little surrounding villages, followed by lunch at one of the welcoming pubs these places boast.

3. Where is your favourite place to shop locally and why?

I love to spend time shopping around Chatsworth Road area. There are unique independent shops that have an array of different offerings.

4. What is your favourite hidden gem in Chesterfield and why?

My favourite little gem is the Pomegranate Theatre. It has retained the look and feel of a traditional theatre and hosts a diverse range of entertainment, from supporting local amateur productions, to music and family events.

5. What are the positives about running a business here?

Slic Training is located in the middle of the town centre, which makes it an ideal location for visitors, with easy access to the motorway, and good transport links.

6. What new development excites you most?

The Chesterfield Waterside regeneration scheme is a really exciting opportunity for the town. The development will help create and secure jobs for local people. We would love to be involved in this by offering/supporting opportunities to train our young and upcoming workforce, along with upskilling current workforce to take the development forward.

7. What do you believe Chesterfield needs but doesn’t yet have?

I think we could make better use of the Proact stadium in terms of a concert venue. I think if this was promoted to attract A-list acts, it would bring more revenue in to the town.
