A scene from the classic Lewis Carroll novel was put together in Springbank House Care Home’s garden, in Chesterfield.

Alice was the scarecrow, toadstools were used as tables, plant pots were painted to resemble teapots and cups, and a stuffed March Hare was sat on a bench.

Competition organisers the Hill Care Group, which operates care homes across the north, awarded the home £125 for their design.

Karen Busby, home manager at Springbank House Care Home, on Ashgate Road, said: “Everyone at the home joined in to create the Alice in Wonderland scene.

“We decided to make Alice as the scarecrow but wanted to add more so came up with the Mad Hatter’s tea party idea.

“We are delighted to win and the money will go into the residents’ fund, which contributes towards outings for the residents.”
