Chesterfield businessman injured after car burst into flames during refuelling

'‹ Chesterfield businessman and rally enthusiast Steve Perez is receiving treatment after his car caught fire while it was being refuelled during the Ypres Rally in Belgium.

Mr Perez - who opened Casa Hotel on Lockoford Lane in 2011 - was involved in the accident whilst in the designated refuel zone at the rally on Saturday (23rd June).

A spokesperson for Mr Perez this week said the entrepreneur’s Lancia Stratos ‘became engulfed in flames’ when it was being refuelled in the refuel zone during the rally.

The spokesperson added: “Although Steve sustained burns, he’s making a full recovery, which he and his family attribute to the excellent care and treatment he received at the rally and at Ghent University Hospital in Belgium.

“Steve’s co-driver Paul Spooner also attended hospital following the accident and was quickly discharged uninjured.

“As is standard practice, Steve will continue to receive treatment over the coming weeks as he gets back to full strength.” ​
