Mr Perez - who opened Casa Hotel on Lockoford Lane in 2011 - was involved in the accident whilst in the designated refuel zone at the rally on June 23.

Speaking at the time, a spokesperson for Mr Perez, a rally enthusiast, said his Lancia Stratos 'became engulfed in flames' when it was being refuelled in the refuel zone during the rally.

He sustained burns but is making a full recovery, which he and his family attributed to the excellent care and treatment he received at the rally and at Ghent University Hospital in Belgium.

Earlier this afternoon, Mr Perez tweeted a video of a helicopter taking off and said: "I’m coming home! Thank you to everyone for all of your support."

Steve’s co-driver Paul Spooner also attended hospital following the accident and was quickly discharged uninjured.
