The Spire Brewing Company will see their ‘Jailbreak American IPA’ bottled beer go head-to-head with six others at the Quality Food and Drink Awards later this year.

The small brewery was set up in November 2014 in Sutton Scarsdale by managing director Gareth Jones who is helped out by his partner Salli and their friends, family and other volunteers.

He said: “It is a fabulous accolade to be nominated for the award but what we want now is to go one better and win it.

“The last two years have been a huge learning process for me and the nomination is a testament to all the people who volunteer their help to make it happen.”

The brewery team will find out if they have won at a glittering awards ceremony at the Grosvenor House Hotel in London on November 10.

As well as their recent nomination, the brewery has also recently opened a bar at their Sutton Scarsdale premises called ‘The Snug’.

“We’ve got people coming in who have lived in the village for 25 years who have never spoken to each other, says Gareth.

“We’re not anticipating it ever getting really rammed but it’s really nice when there’s quite a few in and it’s buzzing.”

The brewery has also recently invested in new equipment, meaning they can improve the quality of their ales still further.

Future plans include a trip to Market Rasen racecourse for a day where all the stakes will be named after their beers and, in December, a European adventure to Chesterfield’s German twin-town Darmstadt where they will be selling their wares on the Christmas markets.
