Chesterfield is bloomin' marvellous!.....and it's official!

FLOWER POWER -- Eastwood Park, which was one of the stops on the tour of Chesterfield that tantalised the East Midlands In Bloom judges.

For the town has picked up three gongs in the annual East Midlands In Bloom awards, including two gold prizes for the first time.

Judges went on a tour in July that assessed bulb and tree planting, floral displays, litter collection, cleanliness, conservation work and recycling. It included stops at the town centre, Eastwood Park, Spire School, Rufford Close allotments, the Britannia pub, Holmebrook Valley Park, Pevensey Green community project, Ringwood Hall and Chesterfield crematorium grounds.

Chesterfield won gold in the small city category, and Ringwood Hall gold in the best hotel/pub garden or display section. The Rufford Close allotments took a special judges’ award for having “a very clean and organised site”.

The town’s entry into the competition and the tour were organised by Chesterfield Borough Council and the Chesterfield In Bloom committee. Coun Chris Ludlow said: “This is testament to the hard work by the council and community groups to make our town a clean, green and inviting place for residents and visitors alike.”
